Posted by on April 5, 2017 with 0 Comments

A special gift for our members in 2017…Autocross at Kentucky Speedway plus laps on the oval!!! There are three big changes to the 2017 season.

1. We are at KY Speedway.
2. We have laps on the KY Speedway Tri-Oval.
3. You can join the Mercedes-Benz Club as a guest at NKU for an autocross.
Ohio Valley Region / Porsche Club of America will have two Autocross events in 2017 on Saturdays starting at 9:00 am. Racing will be held at KY Speedway, 1 Speedway Drive, Sparta, KY 41086 or exit 57 off I-71 South. Registration is now open at: www.ClubRegistration.net. Please register early, we need to conserve time Saturday morning. The entry fee is just $40 per driver.
For those new to the sport, autocross is a fun and exciting way to drive your vehicle on a track against the clock plus we have instructors. Drivers will maneuver around a cone lined course with sharp curves, slaloms, straightaways and tight handling situations. All of this is accomplished in a safe and controlled environment with one driver on course at a time. Safety is the primary focus in autocross.

03/18/17 – Invite to Visit Bob McConnell’s Race Car Collection

Posted by on January 15, 2017 with 0 Comments

IF YOU WISH TO JOIN US ON THIS TRIP, CONTACT RAY RAWLINSON BY MARCH 1ST. WE NEED TO KNOW HOW MANY WILL BE GOING.

Visit Bob McConnell’s Open Wheel Car Collection
Gaslight Auto, Urbana, Ohio,
Saturday March 18th 2017 at 9:30 AM

Bob McConnell’s great collection of race cars was the subject of a story by Bill Bolder in Open Wheel magazine this past March. The following is part of the story.
It’s been called the largest and finest privately owned collection of open wheel cars in the world. One look at the huge gathering of dirt cars, sprints and Indy cars will quickly ascertain that the statement is probably true.

Bob McConnell is a quiet man and won’t give exact numbers as to what he has acquired through the years. It is far from being a static collection as he is constantly wheeling and dealing to acquire the cars that strike his fancy. As he puts it, “There are piles and pieces lying around here and it’s hard to know whether to call each of them a car or not.

Bob loves the historically significant cars and strives hard to acquire them. A vast majority of his cars have some aspect that makes them unique. He knows the histories of all his cars and the facts and accomplishments of each rifle from his lips. “The design of each of the cars is so interesting to me,” he says. “They certainly weren’t cookie-cutter cars like today, with each car being hand-fabricated. I admire the builders of these masterpieces and try to understand their design thinking.” These mere words do not do this collection justice. You simply have to be there to feel the mystique of the cars and recall their accomplishments. For an open wheel fan, this is the ultimate trip into a fantasy world of vintage dream machines.
Meet at 9:30 AM sharp at the address below, warehouses are behind the Model T parts business.
Directions:
Gaslight Auto Parts, 1445 South US Hwy 68, P.O. Box 291, Urbana, OH 43078
